Young Adults of Inland Valley
By Erica Garcia

The young adults class is composed of ages ranging from 18 to 30 years old. The group has single working, single college, and newlyweds. The young adult class has expressed interest in serving others, increase their spiritual life and having fellowship with each other as well as with the rest of the congregation. Please continue to pray for this group of young adults as they pursue their plans to please the Lord.

Inland Valley Teens
By Michael Rivas

It is really encouraging to see the older teens and young adults get along with the younger teens. I’ve seen other youth groups who did not want to include the young ones because they are not in high school yet or for some other reason. Our teens have developed an accepting attitude with each other, and that shows the love of God working in our teens.

In the past few months we have “walked” through the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation.
We did a general familiarization of all the books. We also looked at issues our teens face every day; issues like temptation, lies, fighting, drugs, materialism, and other things our teens are fed in today’s society.

Some activities our teens have participated in are nights out at Boomers during Christian night; a trip to Magic Mountain, and of course a “lock in” at the building. At these events our teens are encouraged to bring their friends and show them that Christians do have fun.

For the rest of the summer, we are planning a few more activities, such as a pool party, car wash fundraiser, and camping. We are also getting together during the week to hang out and have ice cream. The teens take an active role in planning these activities as well as what we are studying. I think it is inspiring to see their interest and participation in something that will benefit their lives eternally.

Children’s Classes
By Judi McKee

We are committed to “teaching our children diligently” (Deut.6:7) so that they will grow as Christ “in wisdom, in stature and in favor with God and men” (Luke 2:52). To be fully effective, the teaching of our children is part of the role-modeling and direct instruction of each Christian household. Our Sunday morning children’s classes provide an opportunity to reinforce your home teaching. Our children’s program also offers a safe and caring place for visiting children to first encounter the love of Christ and the opportunity for children to build relationships with each other (fellowship).

Our children participate in the auditorium service for part of the morning so they can begin to experience and understand elements of worship. Children, ages 3 years old to fifth grade, are dismissed (usually after Communion) to go to their own worship service. Under the leadership of Janet Campbell, they enjoy a worship which includes singing, prayer time, and a Bible story.
After services, you will see the children come in to get their snack (greatly appreciated - thanks to Katherine Netessova) and then return for age-level classes. Fifth and sixth graders are taught by Janet. She also taught a six-week session focusing on baptism and its meaning as our response to Christ; this class was offered to anyone 5th grade and up.

Roxanne Lee teaches third and fourth graders, while Isabel Pasarini works with first and second graders. Judi McKee teaches kindergarten and pre-schoolers; she enjoyed assistance at various times from Marilyn Nelson, Wilfrido Albiter Jr., and Taylor Berterretche. Our classes are small which gives great opportunities for student-teacher interaction and conversation. We learn how to use our Bibles; we play games, do worksheets and crafts to reinforce Bible stories; we emphasize application of biblical teachings to our lives.
If you would like to participate in this very fun and rewarding ministry, please let us know (tell Janet or any current teacher). We need substitutes as well as teachers who would rotate with current teachers on a monthly or quarterly basis.

“Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Our History
By Mary Alice Reed

Inland Valley Church of Christ was organized in January 1992 with approximately 80 members. We met at the Reeds’ home for a couple of months until we could find a location for our services.

We entered a contract with Pomona Unified School District to rent the auditorium at Yorba Elementary on La Verne Avenue in Pomona from March 1992 to November 1993.

We moved from that location to Euclid Elementary School in Ontario from December 1993 to March 1994.

In April 1994 we applied to the Charter Oak Unified School District to rent the Sonrise Christian School auditorium and classrooms in Covina. We used that facility until December 1996 when we purchased the property on Palmetto in Ontario.

Steve Cate was our English-speaking minister and Tom Allen was our Spanish-speaking minister. Frank Alexander, Gale Carr, and Don Crawford were the first elders. Phil Lewis and Roger Harrell also served as elders for a time.

On July 25, 1995, Articles of Incorporation were filed with The State of California Secretary of State to incorporate the Church of Christ-Inland Valley.

(Our History will continue in future publications.)
